Introduction

Background

THINK GREEN is a youth-led environmental initiative based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, dedicated to grassroots climate action, education, and sustainable development. Since its inception, it has reached over 2,500 individuals through school clubs, outreach programs, and its signature December Festival.

The Climate Fresk Workshop 2026 was inspired by the success and impact of the previous workshop conducted in 2025, which demonstrated the power of interactive, science-based learning in raising climate awareness among youth. Building on this foundation, the 2026 workshop aimed to further deepen participants’ understanding of climate change while expanding engagement to a broader and more diverse group of young people.

As climate challenges continue to intensify globally, the workshop was designed to equip youth with the knowledge, critical thinking skills, and collaborative mindset needed to take meaningful climate action. Through the Climate Fresk methodology, participants were able to explore the causes, impacts, and actions of climate change in an engaging and structured way.

Organized by THINK GREEN, this initiative reflects a continued commitment to environmental education and youth empowerment. By connecting the momentum from the previous year with new energy and participation, the workshop strengthened a growing community of informed, proactive, and solution-oriented young leaders ready to drive sustainable change within their communities and beyond.

Opening ceremony and icebreakers

Facilitated by THINK GREEN in collaboration with Global Platforms, the workshop commenced with introductory remarks from the THINK GREEN TZ leaders, Climate Fresk facilitators, and participants. This session created a welcoming environment and allowed attendees to familiarize themselves with one another, setting the tone for open engagement and collaboration throughout the workshop.

“I AM” poem screening

Poems were presented by two of our participants, conveying a powerful message from the audience about the environment and its ongoing degradation over time. The poem created a meaningful moment of reflection, highlighting how human activities contribute to environmental damage while also emphasizing that we are the ones most directly affected by its consequences.

Outcomes and impacts

Increased climate knowledge

The Climate Fresk workshop increased participants’ understanding of climate change by breaking down complex scientific concepts into an interactive, card-based learning process. Participants collaboratively explored the causes, impacts, and interconnections of climate systems based on IPCC science. This approach strengthened systems thinking and helped participants link human activities to environmental consequences.

Through discussion and reflection, participants improved their understanding of sustainability, climate science, and community-level solutions, making the learning practical and applicable to real-life contexts.

Strengthen network and collaboration

The event created a strong platform for building eco-partnerships, mentorships, and collaboration between environmental clubs and organizations. Participants and facilitators engaged in meaningful networking sessions that allowed them to share experiences, ideas, and ongoing initiatives in environmental action.

These interactions opened opportunities for future collaboration, knowledge exchange, and mentorship between young leaders, educators, and environmental organizations. As a result, participants left with stronger connections and potential partnerships to support continued climate action and community-based environmental projects.

New ideas and initiatives sparked

Several participants committed to launching eco-projects in their schools, ranging from composting to environmental art, poetry, and advocacy.
